How does the Moonfleet Manor Hotel stack up against other competition for the best family day out? We took a closer look to find out…
Moonfleet Manor is an awesomely named Georgian country manor home situated on the Jurassic Coast. With Dorset on your doorstep, you find yourself in the area of the country where apple and berry picking are popular, and where the hazelnuts grow largest!
What sort of facilities can you expect to find at Moonfleet and is it good for a family adventure? Let’s find out!
Moonfleet Manor – the Facilities
Moonfleet has only 30 rooms, which is actually ideal. This isn’t a place that is ever going to feel crowded at night, and you aren’t going to be left queuing to use the amenities. Moonfleet Manor is actually named for the Fleet Lagoon in Weymouth. The hotel was formerly a family house… apparently it has a long historical association with smuggling…
Moonfleet Manor is right between a beach and a lagoon, it has its very own crèche, a veranda, a play zone for the little ones, an outdoor play area and sand pit….tennis courts, a pool… the list goes on and on and on. They have their own gardens, Mediterranean style restaurant, spa and treatment rooms… the facilities at Moonfleet Manor are absolutely top notch.
Of course Moonfleet offer free We-Fi, but more well-known is their 2 AA rosette classed restaurant. Although the theme is Mediterranean, the menus are mainly British and French. The local produce used really sets this eatery apart from the rest.
Family Fun Activities at Moonfleet Manor
They have a brilliant family escape room at Moonfleet which attracts guests by the dozen. The Escape Room is a reasonably new concept in Britain and they are a great way to spend an afternoon. The family are locked in a room and must solve puzzled together in order to get out again. They can be a little on the scary side, so making this one family-friendly is a nice touch that really sets Moonfleet apart from the rest.
The beach that Moonfleet Manor sits on is actually 18 miles long! They guess that there are nearly 20 million pebbles on it! All along the beach activities can be found, from guided walks to hikes. There are coves nearby and rock pools… but this is the Jurassic Coast, so fossil hunting is a big popular pastime here. The staff at the hotel will offer guided fossil hunting walks in summer holiday time.
Asides from the coves and the more natural family fun of the surrounding areas Moonfleet has these family attractions:
- They run a crèche facility and provide two hours of complimentary childcare each day. When you holiday at Moonfleet you can have a lie in if you want one!
- They have three indoor pools that are also heated.
- On a Sunday morning the nanny will collect your children for the breakfast club so you can sleep later.
- They offer a baby listening service so that you can be immediately alerted to noises in the room while you dine.
- They provide baby equipment such as cots and nappy bins. They can even provide sterilizers and other useful things. All of this is done to give you less packing.
- They have a separate pool for babies and toddlers.
- The veranda area is brimming with toys and indoor activities in the event of bad weather.
- Children have their own menu and dining times if they need them.
- The Toddler Waddler – a guided educational tour for the little ones.
- Tennis coaching is available for those that want to learn – that’s adults or children!
As an added bonus Moonfleet Manor does offer family rooms which are big enough to sleep everyone. They are also pet friendly, which means that the doggo can join you for the family holiday and you save the kennel costs of housing them while you are away.

- Weymouth Harbour – a slightly less-tame version of the same family activities can be found at the Harbour.
- Sandsfoot Castle, Portland Castle, or Rufus Castle – you are not short of castles on the Jurassic Coast!
- Portland Bill Lighthouse – no magical children’s coastal holiday is complete without the trip to the obligatory lighthouse.
- Weymouth has its own sea life centre, beach, shopping areas.

Moonfleet Manor for Family Holidays
We love Moonfleet Manor for family holidays. It is just the right size to remain pleasantly peaceful, while being big enough to ensure that the kids always have opportunities to make new friends. We love the choice in pools and the fact that the room-to-pool ratio works out at less than ten rooms per pool. We also like the family escape room, which proves that a family holiday at Moonfleet Manor really is something that little bit different.
This is a great location for family fun days. It will help y0ou make cherished, treasured holiday memories that will have your family returning again, year after year. Besides anything else – the Moonfleet Manor is down in Dorset, getting some of the best weather in the UK come summertime.
Maybe we will meet you there!
