On our quest to find you the very best in family fun vacations, outings, and adventure days – we took a closer look at the ins and outs of Woolley Grange. This fun destination can be found near Bath, centred in a sprawling estate in Bradford-on-Avon. Style aside, this Jacobean mansion is sure to hold something of interest to all ages!

Somewhere in the sanctity of Wiltshire County you will stumble across the fourteen acre estate that houses Woolley Grange. They have a wooded area and enclosed gardens for your privacy – even although their grounds aren’t quite as big as some we have reviewed. The privacy of walled gardens is not lost here.

Woolley Grange is one of a number of locations offered by the Luxury Family Hotel Group. They have won several awards for this chain, including winner of the Family Traveller Award for Best UK family hotel back in 2017. They are on the Great West hiking path and have two rosettes from the AA guide… so no matter what their facilities are you know they are providing an exemplary service while they do it.

Immediately upon arrival at this luxury destination you will realise that it is a pet friendly hotel. This sets it apart from some of the others we have reviewed and immediately jumps it up farther in our estimation. Dogs are family too. When you stay at home for your vacation you ought to be able to take all of your family with you… it just stands to reason.

So…Asides from being an exemplary hotel with [et friendly facilities, Woolley Grange also offers free parking, access to your very own outdoor and indoor swimming pools, and an attached spa and wellness centre where you can recover if the kids get too much… Did we mention they have complimentary childcare?

As a further nod to family friendly stays they also offer family rooms in a designated section of the hotel. This means you are kept away from the potential party goers. They have a play house for the smaller children and an area for the older kids known as the ‘Hen House’.

Family Activities at Woolley Grange

Woolley Grange has its very own restaurant and Spa. While you need to pay for a meal in one and a treatment in another; rumour has it that speaking nicely to the chef might result in a tour of their very own kitchen garden. If you are lucky, the little ones might even be able to pick some of their own dinner!

Some of the best free family activities you get as part of your stay at Woolley Grange include:

  • Two hours of free childcare per day is included in the price of your stay.
  • They offer a baby listening service through the same area of the Woolley Bears Den.
  • Collect eggs from the ducks and chickens in Roald Dahl’s ‘Chicken House No. 1’.
  • Browse the Good Life Garden and enjoy the pond.
  • Get lost in the tall grass maze – one of the favourite attractions at Woolley Grange.
  • Meet the rabbits, pigs and chickens at any time of day.
  • There is an 8am kid’s breakfast club on a Sunday morning. They will even be collected from your room so you can have a long lie.
  • They provide some additional baby equipment so you may not need the travel cot – contact them before you go to save luggage space.
  • There is a crèche which is free for two hours a day.
  • Baby’s first swim group operates as part of baby’s first holiday package.

Paid Activities at Woolley Grange

As well as providing a wonderful range of free activities, parts of the fun at Woolley Grange have to be paid for. This can add extra cost to your stay – but it also allows you to go for an afternoon, engage in your activity of choice, and leave again without paying the full cost of a room.

Some of the paid activities in Woolley Grange include:

  • Parents can enjoy a spa treatment or a meal.
  • Apple Day in October – where kids can pick and crush apples for making juice.
  • If you go over the two hours a day for the crèche or children’s groups you may be charged.
  • Children’s High Tea is served at 5pm every day. Little princes and princesses will adore this service!
  • They offer a Toddler specific break with extra childcare covered in the costs.
  • Again, the Woolley Bears Den and the Hen House are free for two hours a day. If you run over this time you may be charged extra.

So as you can see, there are a number of optional extras that you can pay for should you visit for the day without actually spending the night.

Family Things to Do in Bath and Bradford-on-Avon

There are so many sights for you to get out and see in the surrounding areas that you are truly spoiled for choice. You can go and visit the Roman Baths that make the city so famous, or peruse Bath Abbey and the spectacular architecture you will find there.  Bristol Temple Meads is only a handful of miles away; as is Longleat Safari Park… there really is so much to do for families in this area.
