Situated in the quiet hamlet of Feock on the outskirts of Truro, Come To Good Farm offers bed and breakfast in a working farmyard setting. The family accommodation consists of a detached family suite that sleeps four and comprises a bathroom and separate sleeping/lounge area. The suite offers the usual tea and coffee making facilities, TV/DVD player, Wi-Fi access, a fridge and a cot is available on request. Babysitting can also be arranged for £5 an hour.
Breakfast takes place in the owner’s kitchen, a short distance away in the main residence, and is served on a large farmyard table that you share with other guests. We found the communal atmosphere was great for socialising with other guests and the owners themselves, Sue and Robin. During our stay, I managed a superbly cooked breakfast every morning, the highlights being the home produced eggs and local bacon. Credit goes to Sue for being able to hold a conversation with everyone at the table, including the children, whilst simultaneously cooking amazing breakfasts!
The detached barn was lovely and clean, furnished in typical farm style. A double bed and a single bed that converts into a two person bed, allows a maximum of four people to sleep in the room. This is extended to five if you utilise the cot. The wood burning stove was a nice touch, we used it both nights we stayed. The only real issue we had was that travelling with young children (a baby and toddler) meant that the ‘small living area’ was wasted on us for a large part of the evening as we could not watch tv or get the fire going as we had to keep quiet as we waited for the kids to doze off! I would recommend the detached barn more for older children and parents who are comfortable sharing a space together.
The farm itself was really interesting for the children, our youngest son took an interest in the tractor which Robin was happy to show him around. The farm specialises in ‘Chicken and Egg’ and ‘Lambing’ breaks where you can learn all about buying and keeping chicken, ducks and sheep so there is plenty going on for both adults and children.
Prices
From £40 per adult when sharing, children are half price.
What is nearby?
Sue and Robin provide local guides in the room which are very useful for planning your stay. As far as nearby family friendly eateries go, we were really pleased with The Punchbowl and Ladle pub (Penelewey, Feock, Truro, R3 6QY Tel: 01872 862237) and also The Old Quay Inn in Devoran (St John’s Terrace, Devoran TR3 6ND Tel: 01872 863142), both were excellent in catering for us and our children.
Come To Good Farm is only 5 miles from Truro so expect the usual family friendly city activities e.g. swimming pool, bowling, soft play but with Newquay only around 14 miles away, it is worth visiting some of the more family friendy attractions this great seaside town has to offer such as the Blue Reef Aquarium (Towan Promenade, Newquay, Cornwall, TR7 1DU Tel: 01637 878134) and Newquay Zoo (Trenance Gardens, Newquay, Cornwall, TR7 2NN Tel: 01637 873342).
If you have children 7 years or older and want to sample water based activities then Loe Beach Watersports (Loe Beach, Feock, Truro, TR3 6SH Tel: 01872 864295) is a couple of miles away and boasts safe, family-friendly waters for Kayak hire, paddleboarding (SUP), boat hire (motor), sailing dinghy hire and lessons.
