Family Friendly Magazine Editors' Choice AwardCourt Farm Holidays is a self catering establishment set within 500 acres of farmland offering cottages for families large and small to stay in. The farm is in Marhamchurch, which is near Bude, and has been in the family’s hands for generations. The pride the family consequently takes in Court Farm is apparent everywhere you look and they have placed a real emphasis on creating a ‘home away from home’.

This is no more obvious than within the cottages themselves, which are well equipped and beautifully designed. The largest farmhouse can sleep up to 17 people – the smallest cottage fits just two. A smattering of the accommodation is dog friendly. Some also have hot tubs for those after that little bit of luxury. All, however, have necessities like bed linen, bath towels and crockery. For those that need some bits for the children, there is an option to borrow at, no additional charge, a high chair, changing mat, potty and stair gate. A few baby items, like a buggy, are available to hire at a small cost.

One very nice addition, and a small nod to how child friendly this place is, is the toy box that is filled to the brim for the little ones. There is no shortage of things for children to do here outside of the cottages either. There is a soft play area in the games room, along with a pool table for older children. An indoor swimming pool is also within the grounds in addition to an outdoor play area for the most active of monkeys. For the more sedate, children are encouraged to help fill the Farm’s gallery wall by picking up art supplies at reception. Plus, the farm is always looking for mini farmers to help collect eggs from the chickens.

For adults, there is an onsite beauty room where mum or dad can indulge in some pampering with a spa treatment. Bikes can also be hired from reception and the hot tubs in some cottages can obviously be used at any time of day. The heated indoor swimming pool, whilst child friendly, is still a wonderful spot to relax in – especially on warmer days when the glass enclosure can be slid back to allow guests to enjoy some Cornish sunshine. Yoga and tennis courts are also available at Court Farm.

For those that don’t always want to cook, there is a restaurant very close by called The Weir, which also has great facilities for kids, as well as delicious food. On Fridays, there is a fish and chip van to make use of or there is always the village pub called The Butchers Arms with its own soft play area.

The wider surrounding area is fantastic to explore with the beautiful beaches like Widemouth Bay to discover.

Our Verdict: Court Farm Holidays
To Sum Up
We spent a great week with our two children at Court Farm Holidays. The accommodation is excellent for exploring Bude and the surrounding area although it is placed next door to residential property, so you don't feel wholly isolated and 'in the country'. However, this is a minor point as the house we stayed in was perfect, decorated to a modern and high standard and had pretty much everything a family would need.

We particularly enjoyed taking the kids to feed the chickens every morning and the facilities provided were enough to keep them occupied with a covered outdoor swimming pool, park areas with plenty of ride on toys and an indoor area complete with soft play and a pool table.

Over the road is the Butchers Arms which, whilst it serves nice pub grub, is outshone by the very family friendly 'The Weir restaurant (http://www.weir-restaurant-bude.co.uk), a short walk away along the river with superb food and lakeside views. We spent a couple of lunchtimes here relaxing next to the water whilst the kids played in the self-contained park.

The hot tub in the rear garden provided a nice relaxing end to the evenings after the kids were put to bed. One of the most memorable occasions was watching a distant thunderstorm complete with lightning whilst enjoying a glass of prosecco - the hot tub equivalent of a British barbeque!
