The Rosevine hotel can be found near Portscatho and about a half hour from Truro. It has exemplary four star accommodations on the Roseland Peninsula of Cornwall and is rated as an excellent local attractions.

The Rosevine is one of those cosy, comfortable, country feeling hotels with open fireplaces and couches big enough to swallow you. It is just down the road from the Eden Project and 2 miles from the village via the coastal path hike. Again, this hotel thrives on seclusion and you will have plenty of places to unleash the children in peace.

Our Verdict: The Rosevine
Our Verdict
Our family of four had a great weekend at The Rosevine in January. Nigel and Tammy were most excellent in answering our questions before we arrived and also terrific hosts during our stay. Although we like luxury as a family (who doesn't?), I dislike pretentiousness as can be present in some luxury family-friendly hotels. Although The Rosevine's website gives out an air of posh Georgian country house retreat, once you arrive you realise there is no pretention, just luxury accommodation, great food and stellar customer service.

Our sea facing two bedroom self-catering apartment was amazing. We stayed in ‘Haine’ on the first floor which had a large balcony and was most excellent for watching the sun rise and set. Although the apartment is billed as self-catering, it is a little limited as there is only a combi-microwave and no traditional cooker. However, there is everything else you may need in the kitchenette. The kids had a separate room with bunk bed, our only observation being that the glass panels on the door could have been made a bit more private if they had a curtain or shutters.

The kids made great use of the play room and we all used the swimming pool when we got back from our days out. It is literally 5 minutes from Porthcurnick beach (home to the superb al-fresco dining Hidden Hut) and the South-West coast path where you can enjoy a relatively short walk to the picturesque village of Porthscatho. With all this on the doorstep and The Rosevine’s extensive grounds, including outside play equipment, the kids had a whale of a time in the fresh air.

The food was excellent. We indulged in cooked breakfasts every day, chosen from a selection including full English, eggs benedict, smoked salmon and various omelettes. The kids enjoyed the comprehensive buffet as well as the odd ‘special request’ child-size omelette!

Our first night saw us making the most of a superb three course meal in the restaurant. The ‘Little Ones’ menu had all you could want for the kids including family-favourites such as crudités, battered fish and chips, pork sausages, steak and pasta with the ubiquitous ice cream to follow! The adult three course meal (£34) saw me polish off a fantastic sautéed pork cheek, crispy pancetta, black pudding and calvados jus starter. This was followed by an amazing medium-rare Cornish 8oz ribeye steak with hand cut chips. My dessert of a Kernow chocolate torte with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce was the perfect end to the dining experience.

Day two saw us scoff our way through an afternoon tea that had some of the best home-made scones I've ever tasted!

Although the chef is supremely talented, Nigel and Tammy were great front of house. You soon realise that they both pretty much do everything which is superhuman considering the levels of service at The Rosevine..and with a great sense of humour to boot. One of the highlights was when Nigel came out mid-service wearing an identical dinosaur hat to the one our son had, brilliant!

Overall, this is one of the best family-friendly places we've stayed in Cornwall so we’ve quite rightly given it an Editors’ Choice Award. We would urge anyone thinking of going to The Rosevine to do so, you’ll be in good hands!
